When searching for a new furry friend, most people aren’t looking for a disabled pet like a three-legged dog or a deaf cat. However, owning a disabled pet can be just as rewarding, if not more so, than a “perfect” pet. It’s important to note that taking care of these pets requires work, patience, and specialized attention to their unique health needs. Unfortunately, disabled pets are often overlooked for adoption. By adopting a disabled pet like Sally the mermaid cat, not only are you saving a life, but you’re also gaining all the wonderful benefits of living with a pet, including improved health, socialization, and psychological well-being. Meet Sally, an 8-year-old paralyzed cat who is living her best life despite her disability. Check out her Instagram for more information.

The owner of Sally, Janez, shared the full story with Bored Panda after the image credits to sallymermaidcat. He explained that he found Sally lying motionless in a park while he was talking to a friend. Initially, he thought she was dead, but he noticed her arms moving, and upon closer examination, he realized she was alive. Janez rushed Sally to the vet where they discovered a hunting bullet lodged in her neck. The vet informed him that Sally may never walk again. Janez came across Sally around eight years ago, and this coming February, it will mark nine years since he found her.

Even though she’s not a real mermaid, this adorable kitty named Sally still manages to enjoy her life to the fullest as both a house cat and a mermaid. Despite her lack of fins and gills, she doesn’t let it hold her back from being cute and playful in her own unique way. Thanks to her owner’s creative vision, Sally can experience the best of both worlds and bring joy to those around her.

After my friends visited and noticed that Sally couldn’t walk, I had the idea to surprise her with a mermaid costume. I thought it would be fun and cute to see her dressed up like a little mermaid!
Even though she can’t feel it, this fuzzy material is great at trapping heat and keeping her body warm. It’s amazing how something so soft and gentle can have such a functional purpose. Props to sallymermaidcat for capturing this cozy moment on camera.

It’s my duty to ensure that my furry companion’s bladder is emptied thrice a day by hand, and that she has adequate space to roam around freely without getting trapped. It’s definitely a lot of effort and responsibility, but the joy of witnessing her contentment, listening to her purr when I hold her close, and observing her sprinting across the house to bask in the sunlight at her preferred spots makes every bit of it worth it.
